The average American consumes almost 152 pounds of sugar in one year. This equals 3 pounds (or 6 cups) consumed in one week or over 25 teaspoons in just one day! 😳
By contrast in 1915 the average sugar consumption per person was 17.5 pounds a year.
Sugar is the most popular ingredient added to foods in the U.S. and Americans are consuming way too much of it.
……………………….
In a 2014 study published in JAMA an association was found between a high sugar diet and a greater risk of dying from heart disease. In this 15 year study “people who got 17% to 21% of their calories from added sugar had a 38% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared with those who consumed 8% of their calories as added sugar.”
High sugar intake can also “lead to higher blood pressure, inflammation, weight gain and obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver disease which are all linked to increased risk for heart attack and stroke.”
Additionally, studies are showing that consuming too much sugar may increase your risk of cancer.
Sugar also suppresses the immune system. There is enough sugar in one medium soft drink to suppress white blood cells functioning by 40% for at least 5 hours.
One of the reasons sugar is so detrimental is due to the damaging effects it has on your brain and nervous system. This added stress actually changes brain function.
This is why it is so important to limit the amounts of food you ingest that have added sugar. Along with develop habits that help to reduce the amount of stress on the brain and nervous system.
Chiropractic adjustments do just that and is one of the reasons regular adjustments should be part of everyone’s health and wellness program. 💪
Make sure that you and your family are getting adjusted regularly.
