For many years now scientists have broken down parts of the brain to determine more specifically what each area of the brain does. 🧠 This research has helped scientists determine what functions and activities help to keep different areas of the brain healthy.
……………………………………
Let’s take for example the prefrontal cortex. You may have heard us talking about this area in previous handouts, posts, texts, emails etc. This is a very important part of the brain. The prefrontal cortex contributes to a wide variety of executive functions, including: Focusing one’s attention, predicting the consequences of one’s actions, anticipating events in the environment, impulse control, managing emotional reactions and more.
The reason I, as a chiropractor, talk so much about this area of the brain is because research has shown that regular chiropractic adjustments have a positive effect on the prefrontal cortex leading to better health. 💪
…………………………………
In addition to regular adjustments, there is another activity that has been shown to help improve the prefrontal cortex area of the brain. This is the activity of being grateful. 😊
In a fascinating 2015 study, presented in the Journal of Psychotherapy Research, close to 300 participants underwent brain MRI studies just weeks following an activity in which some of them participated in gratitude exercises. What they found was that those who were involved in the gratitude exercises had more activity in the area of the prefrontal cortex of the brain than those who did not. These people, in the study, were also found to have a healthier psychological disposition and they were overall happier as well. 🤯
The bottom line is……be grateful and get adjusted!
